Free yourself from the stress of your finances

Financial freedom is achievable – that’s what the team at Jubilee Budget Advisory Service want everybody to know.

While they’re based in Invercargill, Jubilee helps whānau all over Southland from Te Anau to Bluff. They offer free financial mentoring services to everybody in the community.

Building financial capability service manager Sharon Soper says they help thousands of people in the community to take control of their finances each year. Their financial mentoring services include:

  • One-on-one budgeting advice
  • Total Money Management
  • MoneyMates community education sessions
  • Insolvency work (including debt repayment orders)
  • Help with low interest loans
  • Teaching life skills eg cooking, gardening.

They also have access to emergency assistance such food parcels, wood and coal, school uniforms and covering the cost of visits to the doctor.

Financial mentoring involves looking at how a person can make lasting change in all aspects of their lives for a more stable financial future.

“You don’t have to have an issue with your money, it’s about getting control of your money,” says Sharon.

A recent client gratefully shared that the service takes a holistic approach and helped them design a budget to meet their needs, and not just a budget to balance the numbers: “thank you for your understanding and kind and gentle approach”.

The service has just moved to its new premises in 23a Fourth Street, Invercargill, to house their team of 16 – a huge jump from the team of two financial mentors which started with Jubilee 20 years ago.

While some people are referred by other services, you can book an appointment by calling 03 214 0942, 0800 jubilee or emailing info@jubileebudget.co.nz.

If your whānau and friends outside of Southland need support too, you can direct them to our national MoneyTalks helpline.

MoneyTalks connects people and whānau with their local foodbanks, helps them find their way through Work and Income processes and entitlements and supports people to manage their money.

Anybody can get in touch with our MoneyTalks team on 0800 345 123 if they need help with day-to-day money matters like budgeting and debt management. And, it’s free!
