Good Shepherd loans are designed to help New Zealanders with limited incomes improve their quality of life. Good Shepherd, Good Loans, offer no interest loans.

Ngā Tāngata Microfinance makes available interest-free loans as an alternative to high-cost lenders. Loans at Ngā Tāngata are 100% interest-free, with no administration fees or hidden costs.

The Newtown Ethical Lending Trust makes available interest-free loans to Wellingtonians as an ethical alternative to high-interest lenders. Their loans are 100% interest-free, with no admin fees or hidden costs.

Dispute Resolution

Dispute Resolution Schemes are independent organisations that help you resolve complaints to finance, telecommunication and utility companies. 

The Banking Ombudsman Scheme (BOS) is here to help fix problems between customers and banks. They also provide information and guidance, and the service is free and independent.

Financial Dispute Resolution Service helps resolve complaints between consumers and their financial service providers.

Financial Service Complaints Ltd (FSCL) is a not-for-profit external dispute resolution scheme. They resolve complaints against financial service providers, and are independent, fair and free for consumers.

Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme (IFSO)
resolves complaints about insurance and financial services.

Telecommunications Dispute Resolution (TDR) is a free and independent service to help consumers manage complaints about any product or service from their telecommunications provider.

Utilities Disputes resolves disputes about electricity, gas, water, and access to shared property for broadband installations.

Government Agencies

There are a handful of New Zealand government agencies which exist to protect you. Here are just a few of them.

In addition to being New Zealand’s tax collecting agency, Inland Revenue can provide support in the way of Working for Families Tax Credits.

The Commerce Commission enforce competition, fair trading and consumer credit contracts. 

Tenancy Services provides info for tenants and landlords, everything you need to know about renting, bonds, tenancy agreements and more.

Consumer Protection aims to ensure you know your rights and how consumer law can help if you have a problem with retail goods and services.

The Financial Markets Authority regulates financial service providers, financial advisers and more.

Helplines

There are dozens of free helplines in New Zealand aimed at providing support in all areas.

Victim Support provides a free, nationwide support service for people affected by crime, trauma, and suicide in New Zealand. They help clients to find safety, healing, and justice after crime and other traumatic events.
